For a long time now, many of us have known about the benefits of taking fish oil supplements instead of fresh fish due to the contaminants that the fresh variety contains today. Here are some of the many health benefits you can expect and how to ensure you select the best oil from the many products available today.
To show you the significance of these wonderful omega 3 oils, one of the world’s leading researchers says that taking fish oil daily is probably the single most important dietary change that most people could ever make to improve their health, with 90% of us not receiving enough.
Clinical trials have shown that they help to prevent heart attacks and strokes, improve brain health and memory, provide a great natural treatment for arthritis sufferers, lower cholesterol and greatly help skin health.
Recent research has uncovered evidence that they help protect against age related eye disease and that the DHA fatty acids are the most important ones for brain, heart and arthritis.
It is the anti-inflammatory powers these oils contain that makes them so valuable and scientists have recently discovered that DHA fats are converted into a chemical called resolvin D2 which is powerful in its healing effects, especially for rheumatoid arthritis.
To get these and many more health benefits like avoiding degenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s, it’s essential to select carefully as with many you may be ingesting harmful toxins from the fish like mercury and arsenic.
Taking fish oil is important, but taking the right one is even more essential!
Look for a molecularly distilled oil to know that all the many toxins have been safely removed and ensure you get enough DHA fatty acids instead of the other less useful one, EPA.
I would recommend a minimum of 270mg of DHA and 100mg of EPA per soft gel or tablet to get the most from them. If you can’t see the individual levels as for example many companies simply state EPA/DHA levels as one, then avoid them as they will be very low.
Taking fish oil can help you live a longer and importantly, healthier life and if you follow these tips you can get the maximum from them without any of the risks.

Have you been wondering whether fish oil for kids is a good idea? After all, just because it has numerous health benefits for adults doesn’t mean children should take supplements too. But there is good news about fish oil for kids – particularly if they suffer from ADHD.
First of all, recent studies have shown that an increased intake of the omega 3 fatty acids contained in fish oil can be of great benefit to unborn babies and young children. Omega 3s are essential for the growth and development of the brain and eyes in babies.
Taking omega 3s during pregnancy can reduce the risk of having a pre-term baby. Also, the children of mothers who eat the most fish tend to have higher intelligence scores and better communication skills.
So the benefits for mothers and babies are clear but what about fish oil for kids themselves?
It has been known for some time that the most important fatty acid, DHA, helps brains to function and develop properly.
It now seems that children who have low levels of DHA tend to be more likely to suffer from ADHD.
A 2005 Australian study showed that children with diagnosed attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) who took supplements for 15 weeks had increased attention and reduced hyperactivity, restlessness and impulsivity. The children also performed better on attention tests and improved their vocabulary.
A 2007 US study also showed a marked improvement in ADHD children who took omega 3 supplements. In that study, a psychiatrist reported significant improvements in inattention, hyperactivity, oppositional/defiant behavior and conduct disorder.
So it’s clear that fish oil for kids can be helpful as a treatment for hyperactivity, as well as learning ability and general mood.
What about sources of omega3s?
We can’t make omega 3s in our bodies so we must get them from our diet. Fish remains one of the best sources of omega 3s because it has the two most important of these fatty acids, EPA and DHA. Other sources, such as walnuts and flaxseed, contain another fatty acid, ALA, which must be converted by the body into EPA and DHA. The process is not very efficient though, so fish remains the best source of these important fatty acids.
As with adults, children should not be given supplements if there is any known reaction to fish oil, or if they have a bleeding disorder or are taking anti-coagulants.
So, go ahead and give your child fish oil supplements if you feel they could benefit. is safe and effective at the right doses and you could be doing your child’s health and behavior a great favor.

My name is Therese Samson and I promote natural approaches to health and well-being for the whole family at , where you’ll find out about the many ways omega 3 fish oil can improve heart, brain, skin and immune system health.
I have heard that there is quite a bit of animosity when it comes to the subject of children and omega 3 fatty acid supplementation. This is simply because many people don’t understand the many benefits that their children can receive from increasing the DHA and EPA essential fatty acids in their diet. Numerous studies have concluded that these benefits can begin as early as in the womb.
Studies conducted in Europe have proven that high levels of DHA in the blood of a mother-to-be can be passed on to the fetus through the umbilical blood. It is advised in many circles that a woman begin supplementing her diet with DHA omega-3 fish oil supplements as early in the pregnancy as possible, and taking increasingly higher does up through the third trimester of development.
The link between the cognitive development of children and omega 3 fatty acids is solidified in nature. A mother’s breast milk contains high levels of DHA fatty acids, and this is true whether or not a woman has made a conscious effort to increase the presence of DHA in their bodies or not. DHA and to a lesser extent EPA are necessary for proper cognitive development, and visual acuity.
The DHA content of breast milk prompted the producers of infant formulas to begin adding DHA omega fatty acids to the formulas that they sell. The European studies have concluded that cognitive development can be maximized by raising the level of DHA being fed to the fetus through the umbilical cord. Supplementation during pregnancy can help your child to excel in life.
It has been shown that children and omega 3 supplementation leads the child to the ability to score far higher that their DHA deprived peers in intelligence testing; and they develop greater reasoning and problem solving skills. Infants born with high levels of DHA in heir umbilical cord blood have a tendency towards enjoying IQ levels that are up to 10 points higher than those infants whose mother’s did not supplement their diets with omega-3s.
After the child is weaned either from breast milk or supplemented infant formulas he or she can still receive tons of health benefits from the continuation of an omega-3 rich diet. DHA and EPA are also powerful preventatives of cardiovascular disease, and are tremendously effective in the prevention and treatment of the allergies and asthma that so many of are children are afflicted with.
The positives between children and omega 3 supplementation continue on into their teen years, when the incidences of depression and suicidal tendencies seem to rise in our youth. Later on in life they can feel secure in the knowledge that their risk of developing adult onset diabetes and Alzheimer’s disease are seriously curtailed because of their ongoing supplementation.
Make no mistake about it. The health and well being of children and omega 3 fatty acid supplements go hand in hand. Don’t continue to let fears or doubts about the safety of giving your children DHA omega-3 fish oil deprive them of something that they need. Giving them DHA omega-3 fish oil is one of the best things you can do for them.

A lot of people out there still do not know the answer to the question, what is omega 3 good for? It is a shame that so many still do not know what a truly wonderful addition to their diets omega-3 fatty acids can be, because these essential nutrients are extremely beneficial to your health. They are effective in the prevention of many of the inflammatory diseases that afflict a large percentage of the world’s population.
Both omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids are essential to the proper functioning of the immune system, which uses these inflammatory nutrients to treat all manner of illnesses and injuries. Omega-6s however can be as adept at causing illnesses, as they are at healing them. Their incessant inflammatory effects are the cause of inflammatory diseases, which is why you need to ensure that you have equal or better levels of omega-3s.
One answer to what is omega 3 good for is that it is effective in offsetting the negative effects that omega-6s can cause. These fatty acids have a way of significantly reducing the excess inflammation emitted by omega-6 fatty acids, which lowers the risk of the development of chronic ailments. It is extremely difficult to increase the level of omega-3s through diet however, because the only real source of these essential nutrients is filled with toxins.
Fish is the only food that we eat that is rich in the necessary DHA and EPA omega fatty acids that we need in order to maintain our health. Oily fish are for the most part predators, so they collect toxins not only from the water that they live in, but also from the smaller fish that they eat. They have no way to process and eliminate these toxins, so they gradually accumulate over time.
What is omega 3 good for? These fatty acids are excellent for the prevention of cardiovascular disease, as they lower triglycerides, heart rate, and blood pressure. They also reduce the risk of atherosclerosis by not letting fatty deposits lodge themselves on artery walls, and they prevent clotting by keeping blood platelets from adhering to one another.
DHA and EPA omega-3 fatty acids are heavily involved in cognitive development, and pregnant women who supplement with high quality fish oil supplements pass this benefit to their unborn children. They are also important for healthy brain function, and are very effective in treating depression, aggression, and hostility. They deter the development of amyloid plaques in the brain that are thought to be a precursor to Alzheimer’s disease as well.
What is omega 3 good for when it comes to the prevention and treatment of inflammatory diseases? DHA and EPA are effective in inhibiting the development of gout, rheumatoid arthritis, allergies, asthma, adult onset diabetes, inflammatory bowel disease, and breast, colon and prostate cancer. They are also being studied to measure their effectiveness in the prevention and treatment of Parkinson’s disease.
So what is omega 3 good for? Just about everything that ails you and your entire family should be taking DHA omega-3 fish oil supplements for your health.

GERD or known as gastro esophageal reflux disease is a kind of condition that is focused on the digestive systems of people. The chronic pain of the acid reflux is suffered by many people around the world. This condition is very widespread and it is a disease that is commonly incurred by the stomach contents reflux that reaches the esophagus. The disease is quite common among adults and even to infants and although it may not be life threatening but it can lead to more serious conditions if it is not treated properly or at the right time. Many people will experience a very mild case of acid reflux every once and awhile, and pregnant woman are also prone to this disorder.
The reason some people develop GERD is still unclear. However, research shows that in people with GERD, the LES relaxes while the rest of the esophagus is working. Anatomical abnormalities such as a hiatal hernia may also contribute to GERD. A hiatal hernia occurs when the upper part of the stomach and the LES move above the diaphragm, the muscle wall that separates the stomach from the chest. Normally, the diaphragm helps the LES keep acid from rising up into the esophagus. When a hiatal hernia is present, acid reflux can occur more easily. A hiatal hernia can occur in people of any age and is most often a normal finding in otherwise healthy people over age 50. Most of the time, a hiatal hernia produces no symptoms.
Gastroesophageal reflux disease, or GERD, affects at least an estimated 5% to 7% of the global population – men, women, and children. (Prevalence based on once per day heartburn.) Heartburn and/or acid regurgitation experienced weekly has been found to occur in 19.8% of individuals.[1]
Treatments and drugs
Antacids. Antacids, such as Maalox, Mylanta, Gelusil, Rolaids and Tums, neutralize stomach acid and can provide quick relief. But antacids alone won’t heal an inflamed esophagus damaged by stomach acid. Overuse of some antacids can cause side effects such as diarrhea or constipation. A good GERD diet includes of foods that are not unusual to us and are incorporated in the nutritional chart as recommended for everybody. The GERD diet restrictions for those who have gastro esophageal reflux disease are not as bad as some people might think of. The foods for gerd diet consist of low fat meats, turkey and fish also along with almost all vegetables. The breads that may consume are only those made from non fat or low fat milk. There are a few types of foods that are well considered as being GERD diet foods. This includes fresh vegetables and fruits, broccoli, cabbage, potatoes, carrots, green beans, peas, baked potatoes, ground beef, egg whites, fish, cheese, cream cheese, cookies, potato chips, and salad dressing. All of these are GERD diet foods because rather than infuriating your condition they in fact going to help relieve your symptoms.
A doctor may also recommend different medications to relieve symptoms. Over-the-counter antacids, such as Alka-Seltzer or Maalox, work by neutralizing stomach acid and can help with mild symptoms. Other medications called H2 blockers are available over the counter and by prescription and help by blocking the production of stomach acid. If your doctor thinks you should take these, he or she will recommend certain over-the-counter medications or write you a prescription.
By the time you finish reading this article, you’ll have an excellent grasp on how to identify and understand a quality fish oil review and will know how you can use one of these excellent tools to not only lead you to the best product to suit your needs, but also to save you loads of time and money.
A fish oil review is just like any other review, and if used properly, can save you a lot of time and hassle by quickly cutting through poorly made products, and leaving the premium ones to rise to the top.
An individual who conducts a fish oil review will typically set out to test different products either by purchasing them all, or using samples. Once this is done, the reviewer tries each brand and then reports the personal experiences with the products in an organized comparative format for you to look at. The information should be as unbiased as possible, although this can be very hard to achieve since personal tastes can vary so much.
Here are some important things you need to be diligent about:
Make Sure the People Reporting on the Fish Oil Review are Credible
Have they used the supplements themselves? Is their information articulated in a specific and knowledgeable manner? Does the reviewer make claims that can be quickly verified by doing a search on Google, or does the reviewer make claims that seem dubious?
The following are the 5 essential topics that must be addressed by the reviewer. If you don’t see these topics, don’t bother reading the review. These topics are:
Purity
When it comes to health products, you can never underestimate the importance of purity in the product. Purity is absolutely the most important aspect of fish oil and should never be overlooked for any reason because your health can be impacted. A quality fish oil review will address this issue head on and will openly talk about how purification processes differ between reviewed companies. Freshness
Freshness is another essential topic to any good fish oil review. The reviewer should openly discuss any pros, cons, and best practices regarding freshness in a review, no exceptions.
Transparency
A quality fish oil review should not only cover the product in depth, but should also cover the company that manufactures the product. Does the reviewer discuss customer testimonials, customer support, awards and offer comparisons to other reviewed companies? Does the reviewer mention research practices, inspection practices and other health-related policies? Does the reviewer offer a comparative discussion covering how these differ from company to company? A company should always keep its activities open to public view, especially when it comes to your health. A responsible reviewer will understand this and make it a point to address this important topic in an unbiased manner.
Customer Testimonials
A good fish oil review will mention a company’s credibility and point toward customer testimonials. Since no one speaks the truth like one customer to another, specific testimonials can carry a lot of weight. A good reviewer will make note of those companies that have bragging rights when it comes to customer satisfaction and use them well in the review.
Price
Any good fish oil review always covers the topic of cost. A good review usually mentions any current or ongoing company promotions and draws conclusions about value. Is product A better than product B because it’s twice the cost? Is product C worth the extra cost because it has a specific ingredient? These are the questions a good review will address. Only opinions can be offered, but sometimes hearing these opinions voiced openly can help you arrive at your own conclusions more effectively.
Now that you’re armed with this information you will be quickly able to tell the difference between a good fish oil review and a bogus one. A good review has one goal: to provide you with accurate information based on personal experience. If this element is absent, it’s time to move on to another offer.

Readers of ginkgo should know that it comes from the species of G.Biloba which considers it self as non-flowering plants of the genus of unusual breed. There are lots of unsual plants found inthe mountainary areas which really needs heed and studying on them as one is doing on ginkgo.
People should know that ginkgo helps in lots of investigation and one such investigation is about scientific investigation where it is playing major role in findings. Lots of people doesn’t know that ginkgo helps in treating many diseases such as in memory enhancement , altitude sickness, in symptoms of premenstrual syndrome, and many more . The best part of ginkgo is that it helps in diminishes the usage of chemotherapy on patients by which most of the patients get scared and also ginkgo provides them a new method for dealing the disease. Still now ginkgo has not got the support of medical faculty as it is said that ginkgo helps in the treatment of tinnitus but as per few cases it is believed .
One should know that ginkgo is actually a herb and people should not use it until guided by an expert as in most of the cases reveals the consequences of bleeding in most of the patients especially during anticoagulant therapy. So not only the users but medical faculty too should be cautious while dealing with ginkgo. There are lots of breeds of ginkgo so one should checked as which type or breed of ginkgo they are searching for or wants to have the usage. Ginkgo is prohibited for women especially during breasfeeding and pregnancy. As not too many reports supports the usageof ginkgo in women during this time. If someone does the usage of ginkgo without having information about its pros and cons then it might lead to bleeding. So one cann’t accuse the herb ginkgo but their own lack of information.

I don’t know you, but I am willing to bet that if you or a loved one is depressed right now, you’d be willing to take a look at the possible remedies available to you. This topic strikes a personal chord with me as depression runs in my family. Can fish oil for depression work? I absolutely believe it can. However, don’t take my word for it. Read the research and the rest of this article, and you’ll be able to determine if in fact fish oil for depression is a viable option.
It seems like every time we turn our heads, there is some new medication, fad, gimmick or supplement claiming it’s the magic bullet cure for chronic conditions like depression.
The reality is, very few are able to live up to their claims. The good news is that some actually do deserve tremendous praise. Fish oil supplements are one of them.
If you’ve been depressed, you know that it’s one of the worst things you can experience. Getting out of bed in the morning is a chore in itself. Most days it feels like you have to put in three times the effort just to stay on task. You can’t focus, you barely eat (or eat too much), you lose your motivation, your sex drive is nonexistent and life just seems pointless. Not to mention crying spells, anger and isolation. Any hope for brighter days and an exciting future seems to completely diminish. I’ve been there.
It is estimated that 14 million (5%) of America’s population struggles with depression in various forms and severity. It is interesting to note that the incidences of depression have increased over the same time period there has been a decrease in fish and fish oil consumption. Is this just a coincidence? I don’t think it is. It has been well-documented that high doses of long-chain omega-3 fish oil supplements have a boosting effect on the serotonin levels in the brain. This is a known fact. In some older studies involving giving high dosages of fish oil supplements to dogs, it was found that there was an increase in serotonin in the frontal cortex.
The Japan Factor
The number of depressed people in Japan is only a fraction of what we would find in America or other countries with low fish consumption. One key difference to note other than the numbers is the fact that the Japanese eat a tremendous amount of fish daily in comparison to those countries with growing numbers of depressed citizens. Is it that they have better genes? It’s possible, but impossible to conclude at this point. Is it that there has been some nondisclosure of depressive episodes in Japan in comparison to America? This is also possible due to cultural differences. The likely reason is that the Japanese simply have a higher and more continuous intake of omega-3 in their diets. In addition to this, Japanese diets are considerably low in omega-6, which has been shown to have negative effects on mental and physical health when not balanced with omega-3 intake. The Harvard Experiment
You may have heard of Andrew Stoll and his fish oil for depression experiment carried out at Harvard University. The experiment involved giving one group of patients with bipolar depression high doses of fish oil supplements, and giving the other group an olive oil placebo. The experiment was set to last nine months.
The Results
After four short months the experiment was halted because the differences between the group taking the fish oil for depression and the group taking the placebo were so vast it was deemed unethical to continue. From these results it was concluded that the group taking the fish oil supplements experienced an increase in serotonin and an increase in blood flow to the brain which would provide a better distribution of nutrients like oxygen and glucose leading to better mental function and capacity. It was concluded that fish oil for depression was indeed a viable option in this particular scenario.
Were the fish oil supplements to thank for this tremendous success? Although the answer will differ with opinions, it wouldn’t seem ludicrous to think that it was.
In a more recent study conducted over a two year period it was “found that both a high ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 fat and a low level of DHA in the blood predicted suicidal behavior in people with major depression” (Tribole p 100).
In other words, if you’re depressed, your goal is to decrease your omega-6 intake and increase your omega-3 intake. You can do a fast search on the internet for the common sources of omega-6 fats, and you already know that fish oil supplements are hands down the best way to get omega-3.
Now that you’re armed with this information, you should be able to determine if fish oil for depression is a good alternative for you. In my personal experienced with depression, it sure beat the synthetic medication alternatives. Either way, you should consult with your doctor before beginning any treatment or taking fish oil for depression. Even though it is impossible at this point to conclusively determine that fish oil supplements are responsible for decreases in depression, the evidence seems to overwhelmingly point in that direction.
