GERD or known as gastro esophageal reflux disease is a kind of condition that is focused on the digestive systems of people. The chronic pain of the acid reflux is suffered by many people around the world. This condition is very widespread and it is a disease that is commonly incurred by the stomach contents reflux that reaches the esophagus. The disease is quite common among adults and even to infants and although it may not be life threatening but it can lead to more serious conditions if it is not treated properly or at the right time. Many people will experience a very mild case of acid reflux every once and awhile, and pregnant woman are also prone to this disorder.
The reason some people develop GERD is still unclear. However, research shows that in people with GERD, the LES relaxes while the rest of the esophagus is working. Anatomical abnormalities such as a hiatal hernia may also contribute to GERD. A hiatal hernia occurs when the upper part of the stomach and the LES move above the diaphragm, the muscle wall that separates the stomach from the chest. Normally, the diaphragm helps the LES keep acid from rising up into the esophagus. When a hiatal hernia is present, acid reflux can occur more easily. A hiatal hernia can occur in people of any age and is most often a normal finding in otherwise healthy people over age 50. Most of the time, a hiatal hernia produces no symptoms.
Gastroesophageal reflux disease, or GERD, affects at least an estimated 5% to 7% of the global population – men, women, and children. (Prevalence based on once per day heartburn.) Heartburn and/or acid regurgitation experienced weekly has been found to occur in 19.8% of individuals.[1]
Treatments and drugs
Antacids. Antacids, such as Maalox, Mylanta, Gelusil, Rolaids and Tums, neutralize stomach acid and can provide quick relief. But antacids alone won’t heal an inflamed esophagus damaged by stomach acid. Overuse of some antacids can cause side effects such as diarrhea or constipation. A good GERD diet includes of foods that are not unusual to us and are incorporated in the nutritional chart as recommended for everybody. The GERD diet restrictions for those who have gastro esophageal reflux disease are not as bad as some people might think of. The foods for gerd diet consist of low fat meats, turkey and fish also along with almost all vegetables. The breads that may consume are only those made from non fat or low fat milk. There are a few types of foods that are well considered as being GERD diet foods. This includes fresh vegetables and fruits, broccoli, cabbage, potatoes, carrots, green beans, peas, baked potatoes, ground beef, egg whites, fish, cheese, cream cheese, cookies, potato chips, and salad dressing. All of these are GERD diet foods because rather than infuriating your condition they in fact going to help relieve your symptoms.
A doctor may also recommend different medications to relieve symptoms. Over-the-counter antacids, such as Alka-Seltzer or Maalox, work by neutralizing stomach acid and can help with mild symptoms. Other medications called H2 blockers are available over the counter and by prescription and help by blocking the production of stomach acid. If your doctor thinks you should take these, he or she will recommend certain over-the-counter medications or write you a prescription.
I don’t know you, but I am willing to bet that if you or a loved one is depressed right now, you’d be willing to take a look at the possible remedies available to you. This topic strikes a personal chord with me as depression runs in my family. Can fish oil for depression work? I absolutely believe it can. However, don’t take my word for it. Read the research and the rest of this article, and you’ll be able to determine if in fact fish oil for depression is a viable option.
It seems like every time we turn our heads, there is some new medication, fad, gimmick or supplement claiming it’s the magic bullet cure for chronic conditions like depression.
The reality is, very few are able to live up to their claims. The good news is that some actually do deserve tremendous praise. Fish oil supplements are one of them.
If you’ve been depressed, you know that it’s one of the worst things you can experience. Getting out of bed in the morning is a chore in itself. Most days it feels like you have to put in three times the effort just to stay on task. You can’t focus, you barely eat (or eat too much), you lose your motivation, your sex drive is nonexistent and life just seems pointless. Not to mention crying spells, anger and isolation. Any hope for brighter days and an exciting future seems to completely diminish. I’ve been there.
It is estimated that 14 million (5%) of America’s population struggles with depression in various forms and severity. It is interesting to note that the incidences of depression have increased over the same time period there has been a decrease in fish and fish oil consumption. Is this just a coincidence? I don’t think it is. It has been well-documented that high doses of long-chain omega-3 fish oil supplements have a boosting effect on the serotonin levels in the brain. This is a known fact. In some older studies involving giving high dosages of fish oil supplements to dogs, it was found that there was an increase in serotonin in the frontal cortex.
The Japan Factor
The number of depressed people in Japan is only a fraction of what we would find in America or other countries with low fish consumption. One key difference to note other than the numbers is the fact that the Japanese eat a tremendous amount of fish daily in comparison to those countries with growing numbers of depressed citizens. Is it that they have better genes? It’s possible, but impossible to conclude at this point. Is it that there has been some nondisclosure of depressive episodes in Japan in comparison to America? This is also possible due to cultural differences. The likely reason is that the Japanese simply have a higher and more continuous intake of omega-3 in their diets. In addition to this, Japanese diets are considerably low in omega-6, which has been shown to have negative effects on mental and physical health when not balanced with omega-3 intake. The Harvard Experiment
You may have heard of Andrew Stoll and his fish oil for depression experiment carried out at Harvard University. The experiment involved giving one group of patients with bipolar depression high doses of fish oil supplements, and giving the other group an olive oil placebo. The experiment was set to last nine months.
The Results
After four short months the experiment was halted because the differences between the group taking the fish oil for depression and the group taking the placebo were so vast it was deemed unethical to continue. From these results it was concluded that the group taking the fish oil supplements experienced an increase in serotonin and an increase in blood flow to the brain which would provide a better distribution of nutrients like oxygen and glucose leading to better mental function and capacity. It was concluded that fish oil for depression was indeed a viable option in this particular scenario.
Were the fish oil supplements to thank for this tremendous success? Although the answer will differ with opinions, it wouldn’t seem ludicrous to think that it was.
In a more recent study conducted over a two year period it was “found that both a high ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 fat and a low level of DHA in the blood predicted suicidal behavior in people with major depression” (Tribole p 100).
In other words, if you’re depressed, your goal is to decrease your omega-6 intake and increase your omega-3 intake. You can do a fast search on the internet for the common sources of omega-6 fats, and you already know that fish oil supplements are hands down the best way to get omega-3.
Now that you’re armed with this information, you should be able to determine if fish oil for depression is a good alternative for you. In my personal experienced with depression, it sure beat the synthetic medication alternatives. Either way, you should consult with your doctor before beginning any treatment or taking fish oil for depression. Even though it is impossible at this point to conclusively determine that fish oil supplements are responsible for decreases in depression, the evidence seems to overwhelmingly point in that direction.

For years when someone would mention that they had found the best fish oil people would just roll their eyes believing that the messenger was simply some kind of health nut pushing another brand of snake oil. But a strange thing happened to this fellow on his way to the natural health funny farm; science started to support his enthusiasm for finding the best fish oil.
Nevertheless, still omega 3 rich supplements such as fish oil and flax oil are being met with a great deal of skepticism. I know this because just the other day I happened to hear a conservation between a couple in their late 40’s or early 50’s that was quite enlightening. The man who was in somewhat poor health, who had a history of heart disease and rheumatoid arthritis, had paid a visit to his long time doctor for his annual checkup. Expecting a new wiz band medication he was shocked when the doctor asked him if he had considered supplementing his diet with the best fish oil he could find. I don’t know what was said between doctor and patient after that but what I do know is what this man said to his wife. Rather than embracing the new side effect free supplementation ideas he rebelled, and was furious that his physician had suggested something like this after all this time. After all he needed help, not some natural fish oil that couldn’t possibly produce any noticeable results. He then mentioned that the doctor must have found this information on the Internet because he had run out of ideas.
The truth here is that this gentleman probably has a very good doctor that keeps up with current research trends rather than staying stuck in the past. Many top cardiologist have are embracing omega 3 rich foods and supplements due to their ability to quell general inflammation.
This benefit found in the best fish oil supplements is thought to be produced by two essential omega 3 fatty acids; docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA). DHA is essential for the proper functioning of our brains as adults, and for the development of our nervous system and visual abilities during the first six months of life. In addition, omega 3 fatty acids as a part of a healthy diet plan have a positive effect on existing heart disease, help lower triglycerides, lower blood pressure, reduce the risk of blood clots, improve artery health, and reduce the amount of plaque in the arteries.
So the doctor was really trying to tell this man what they were doing wasn’t having the desired effect and that perhaps trying the best omega 3 rich fish oil he could find just might improve his overall prognosis.
What Next? Finding or best fish oils involves both purity and high DHA levels. Generally the best fish oil is considered to be pharmaceutical grade and contains fish body oils from cold water fish such as salmon, herring, hoki, and/or tuna. Also, make sure molecular distillation has been used to separate the toxins (mercury etc…) from the fish oil based on molecular weight fractionation.

Garlic is great at reducing inflammation because it contains compounds that inhibit lipoxygenase and cyclooxygenase which are enzymes that promote inflammatory prostaglandins and thromboxanes. Along with the Vitamin C it contains, these anti-inflammatory compounds in fresh garlic make it especially useful in protecting the body against severe attacks of asthma and can also reduce the pain and inflammation that is caused by osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis
NF Kappa B and the common cold
Studies conducted at the University of Munich in Germany have found garlic to significantly reduce the activity of the chemical mediator of inflammation: NF kappa-B. Nuclear transcription factor (NF) kappa-B is a chemical that is activated as part of your immune systems inflammatory response to invading organisms. A surge in NF kappa-B can be triggered by things like allergenic foods, high levels of omega-6 fatty acids, colds, physical trauma and other infections. This NF kappa-B surge promotes the inflammation response and sets up ideal conditions for viruses to replicate. In these German studies, unfertilized garlic caused a 25% drop in NF kappa-B activity in blood samples.
Allicin: the microbe killer
Allicin, the sulfur compound that forms when garlic is chopped or otherwise crushed, not only gives garlic that distinctive pungency, it is also a powerful antiviral and antibacterial agent with the ability to annihilate potentially harmful microbes. Research studies on Allicin show it to be effective against the common cold, flu and stomach viruses. It has also shown the ability to fight off Candida yeast and even defend the body against powerful pathogens such as tuberculosis and botulism.
Peptic ulcers
Garlic cannot prevent a person from getting an infection from Heliobacter pylori, the bacterium which causes peptic ulcers. However, eating garlic may help keep this bacterium from doing too much damage. A study conducted in Turkey compared two groups of people: one group that loved to eat lots of garlic both raw and cooked and another group that avoided it at all costs. Blood samples were collected for 19 months and evaluated for the presence of H.pylori. While both groups did display comparable results when it came to the presence of the bacterium, the garlic loving group did display a much lower H.pylori antibody count within their blood.
Drug resistant Strains of Bacteria
Garlic has also shown the ability to be a potent antibiotic even against strains of drug resistant bacteria. A study published in 2003 by the University of California Irvine Medical School, showed that garlic juice displayed significant antibacterial activity against many antibiotic-resistant strains including staphylococci, enterococci and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

For centuries, people have been partaking in garlic because they sensed that it was in some way good for them to do so, now modern science is finally catching up and telling us why this “Stinking Rose” is so good for us after all.
While much of the focus has been on the compound allicin, which gives garlic its distinctive pungency and taste some scientists are finding out that this herb is more than just a one trick pony. While allicin does seem to be a potent antioxidant that can help us fight off those nasty cancer causing free radicals, there are other compounds within garlic that also contribute to a healthy heart.
Hydrogen Sulfide
Scientists have lately been looking into the properties of hydrogen sulfide, a substance that forms after garlic is crushed or cut. While probably known more for the stuff that gives rotten eggs their rotten egg smell, Hydrogen sulfide also acts a chemical messenger in the body. It causes blood vessels to relax thus allowing blood to flow more freely through the blood vessels. According to the study, published in the August 12 issue of the Journal of Agricultural and Food chemistry, the garlic given to lab rats helped reduce damage from the lack of oxygen to the heart. Good flowing blood is essential to a healthy heart and can be the difference between life and death if a heart attack happens.
The catch
The study was conducted using both processed garlic and raw crushed garlic. According to Dr. Dipak K. Das who led the study, while both helped reduce damage from the lack of oxygen, the rats from the fresh garlic group recovered more quickly from simulated heart attacks and had better blood flow through the aorta and increased pressure in the left ventricle.
This is probably because garlic loses most of its ability to produce hydrogen sulfide when it is cooked or otherwise processed. By crushing and eating garlic raw, you increase the chances of ingesting the compound and thereby helping the blood flow through your heart.

Sagging could be the worst happening that can happen to the appearance of the breasts of the female. Men have different points of view where the beauty in breasts is concerned – some men like big breasts, a good deal of like pithy ones, selected like the rounder ones, additonally some like the more subtle breasts with less tissue. But one occurence is certain: no man likes sagging breasts. This is why women with sagging breasts squander their belief and try to desire immediate remedies to affirmatory this condition. Breasts could sag due to various reasons. In most women the sagging is simply an indication of advancing age. As the woman grows older, the tissues that hold the breast upright lose their strength, which makes the breasts to droop downwards. Women who have undergone a pregnancy and childbirth also may have sagging breasts. During pregnancy, the size of most women’s breasts increases. Due to the extra weight in the breasts, the sag could develop. This also happens when the woman feeds her baby after the birth. When the baby suckles on the breast, it has a tendency to pull the breast downwards. This could make the breast droop permanently downwards, causing sagging breasts. Sagging of breasts is a very common condition in women with big breasts. Due to the sheer weight of these breasts, they may droop downwards and cause very prominent sag. It is seen that women who have undergone breast augmentation surgeries and increased the size of their breasts by more than two cup sizes could find the breasts too big for their bodies. Gravity could pull the breasts downwards. However, the sagging of breasts is not such a big problem as it once used to be. With the advancement of cosmetic medical techniques, today there are several options to get the sagging condition of breasts remedied. The breast uplift surgery is one of the common enhancement surgeries being used by women all over the world. In this surgery, the surgeon would try to bring the nipple back to the center position on the breast and then reassign the correct position to the tissues of the breast. The skin around the breast is tautened in order to give the breast a firmer and well-toned look. However, just going in for breast uplift surgery would be hardly enough for a woman who seeks better breasts. Breast uplift surgery could bring the breasts back into position, but it would not make the breasts any bigger. For this reason, most women who go for breast uplift surgery supplement it with a breast augmentation surgery also. The surgeon inserts implants into the breasts in order to increase their bulk and then performs the breast uplift. The result is bigger and better breasts, something that the woman might not have had even in her youth. There are some common problems with the breast uplift surgery. The breasts do sit in within a day or two, but the intermediate period could be a very uncomfortable one for most women, as this is the time when they will be adjusting to the change in their anatomies. The implants would make the chest feel heavier and somewhat awkward for a couple of days. Also, women are forbidden from indulging in any sort of activity that involves the chest for several weeks after the surgery. There could be undue exertion on the newly dislocated muscles, which could also lead to internal bleeding. However, once this phase of adjustment is past, women could see themselves in a new light and feel sexier and a whole lot younger. If you are looking out for getting some remedies for your sagging breasts, then you need to be warned about some of the ineffective methods in the market. One of them is the various creams, sprays and such supplements which promise to give you better breasts. Though these methods are not harmful to the breasts, there is no guarantee that they would cure the sagging breasts. Such supplements might work for toning the breasts, but it is not proven whether they would correct the sagging of the breasts. Similarly, exercises don’t work with sagging breasts. Breasts are largely composed of fatty tissue. Exercise can help building up the muscle, but it cannot do anything with fatty tissue. Chest exercises can improve the chest muscles and hence make the breasts sit better on the chest. This will make the breasts settle better on the chest. However the effect will not be that much. But it is advisable to perform chest improvement exercises before the breast uplift surgery as that could show better effects. So if you are suffering from sagging breasts, do not despair. A vast majority of women all over the world are suffering from this problem. Keep in mind that there is a way out of the problem if you ever need one. In the meantime, indulge in good sexual activity, have a good diet and do chest improvement exercises. You will be on your way to getting a better bust and a better life.
