From personal experience, I can tell you that omega 3 helps depression.  That is to say, taking a fish oil supplement providing 560mg per day of DHA has improved my mood, my ability to concentrate and the quality of my sleep.  Other members of my family have seen the same benefits.  Here’s why the scientists say that it works.

DHA or Docosahexaenoic acid is a unique long-chained omega-3 fatty acid found almost exclusively in fish and seafood.  Certain types of marine algae are being grown as a vegan source of DHA, but the algae does not provide another fatty acid called Eicosapentaenoic acid or EPA.

What the scientists believe is that increased intake of omega 3 helps depression, because a lack of DHA in the diet causes dysfunctional transmission of serotonin, norepinephrine and dopamine, the “feel-good” brain chemicals.  They believe that a lack of EPA in the diet reduces immune system function and increases inflammation throughout the body.  So, that’s why depressive disorders are often accompanied by pain and being depressed hurts in more than one way.

If you are depressed, in pain or both, taking a good fish oil supplement is one of the best things that you can do.  It is not accompanied by unwanted side effects and is good for your overall health.

Make no mistake about it.  There is no evidence that another type of omega 3 helps depression.  So, if you can’t take fish oil, you will need another alternative.

He decided that he was going to sell his business and property.  The profit from the business and the living quarters would be pooled with his private pension, and savings.  His wife was in her fifties too and worked for a local doctor’s surgery as an administrator.  She had a pension and investments too.  They owned a holiday bungalow in Spain and had talked about retirement for some time.  He said that these plans would be put into place once he had been discharged from the hospital.  He was looking forward to sound advice and help to promote good coronary health.

One of the things that he also admitted was that he had to sort out his eating patterns.  Also he there was a need for a nutrition list to assist with him plans a diet.  During the day time he would grab a sandwich in between serving customers.  The sandwich he admitted would be supplemented by a packet of crisps and often with a pork pie or pastries.  He shared an evening meal with his wife but this would be around 8p.m.  Heavy meals at that time of night he admitted caused some indigestion and bloating of the stomach.

So this heart attack moved him to take a fresh approach to his lifestyle and a need to change eating habits.  He decided he needed to eat and drink the right kinds of foods.  The American Heart Association released its revised Diet and Lifestyle Recommendations for 2006 outlining the dietary steps people need to prevent cardio-vascular disease, and other recommendations.

What they have recommended is a further reduction of saturated and trans fats; lowering the intake of food and beverages with sugar; physical activity and weight control; a diet rich in vegetables, fruits and whole grains; avoiding tobacco use; and achieving and maintaining healthy cholesterol levels.

GERD or known as gastro esophageal reflux disease is a kind of condition that is focused on the digestive systems of people. Normally, the diaphragm helps the LES keep acid from rising up into the esophagus. When a hiatal hernia is present, acid reflux can occur more easily. A hiatal hernia can occur in people of any age and is most often a normal finding in otherwise healthy people over age 50. Most of the time, a hiatal hernia produces no symptoms.

Gastroesophageal reflux disease, or GERD, affects at least an estimated 5% to 7% of the global population – men, women, and children. (Prevalence based on once per day heartburn.) Heartburn and/or acid regurgitation experienced weekly has been found to occur in 19.8% of individuals.[1]

Treatments and drugs

Antacids. Antacids, such as Maalox, Mylanta, Gelusil, Rolaids and Tums, neutralize stomach acid and can provide quick relief. But antacids alone won’t heal an inflamed esophagus damaged by stomach acid. Overuse of some antacids can cause side effects such as diarrhea or constipation. A good GERD diet includes of foods that are not unusual to us and are incorporated in the nutritional chart as recommended for everybody. The GERD diet restrictions for those who have gastro esophageal reflux disease are not as bad as some people might think of. The foods for gerd diet consist of low fat meats, turkey and fish also along with almost all vegetables. The breads that may consume are only those made from non fat or low fat milk. There are a few types of foods that are well considered as being GERD diet foods. This includes fresh vegetables and fruits, broccoli, cabbage, potatoes, carrots, green beans, peas, baked potatoes, ground beef, egg whites, fish, cheese, cream cheese, cookies, potato chips, and salad dressing.All of these are GERD diet foods because rather than infuriating your condition they in fact going to help relieve your symptoms.

A doctor may also recommend different medications to relieve symptoms. Over-the-counter antacids, such as Alka-Seltzer or Maalox, work by neutralizing stomach acid and can help with mild symptoms. Other medications called H2 blockers are available over the counter and by prescription and help by blocking the production of stomach acid. If your doctor thinks you should take these, he or she will recommend certain over-the-counter medications or write you a prescription.
