Chemicals In Cosmetics think most of us take for granted that the popular soaps, cosmetics, lotions and hair care products that we buy in our local salons, drug stores and are safe. When I began studying the ingredients in my makeup and shower products like soap and shampoo, I was shocked to discover that almost all contain one or two, but more difficult to pronounce, synthetic chemicals dangerous.
About 90% of all ingredients of cosmetic products on the market are of synthetic origin and directly lead to serious health risks such as cancer, infertility, kidney and liver and severe skin reactions related issues. Environmental Working Group report called “Skin Deep”, found that nearly 90 percent of more than 10,000 ingredients used in products for personal care have not been evaluated by government regulators. At the same time, from 20,000 different off-the-shelf cosmetic products that are for sales in the United States for more than 80% of products containing one or more ingredients that have caused documented adverse reactions in humans and animals past.
The FDA has only banned or restricted just nine ingredients in products of personal hygiene in all its history of 67 years (FDA 2000).
